Littelfuse DCN High-Current, High-Voltage DC Contactor Relays
Littelfuse DCN High-Current, High-Voltage DC Contactor Relays enable design engineers to incorporate high-voltage relay switching into various high-current and high-voltage applications. These DCN Contactor Relays offer 30A to 500A continuous carry and up to 1800V voltage rating. The magnetic arc blowout design dissipates any arc between the contacts within a sealed, gas-filled arc chamber. The coil economizer feature greatly reduces coil power and heating with signal pulse width modulation. Typical applications include electric vehicles (EVs), charging stations for EVs and hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs), electric forklifts, and more.
Features
- Magnetic arc blowout design that dissipates any arc between the contacts within a sealed, gas-filled arc chamber
- Coil economizer that greatly reduces coil power and heating with signal pulse width modulation (PWM)
- Polarized and non-polarized contact design options that optimize performance depending on electrical system load polarity
Specifications
- 30A to 500A continuous carry
- Up to 1800V voltage rating
- Up to IP67 ingress protection
- -40°C to 85°C operating temperature range
Applications
- EVs
- EV/HEV charging stations
- Electric forklifts
- Battery disconnect units and management systems
- Uninterruptible power supplies (UPS)
- Renewable energy storage

EV Application Examples

- Main Contactor: Used in both lines (positive and negative) of the traction battery. The main contactors connect and disconnect the traction battery from the entire electric drivetrain in the vehicle.
- Pre-charge Contactor: Used to protect the main contactors from excess inrush current, a pre-charge contactor is used together with a pre-charge resistor to charge the power inverter's capacitors to a level typically 90% to 98% of the battery voltage.
- Charger Contactor: Used to establish a connection between the battery charger and the traction battery when the vehicle is connected to a charging station.
- Auxiliary Contactors: Controls other electrical loads in the vehicle that are operated by the HV battery (e.g., electric heater, blower, A/C compressor, pneumatic brake compressor, power steering pump, and so on).
